Giordano you have hit the nail on the as regards God and other gods.

Unfortunately for Monotheists they fail to understand that Atheists do not accept the exsistance of any God, not just the God which they believe is the only one and is exclusive to them, but when it is useful direct a Polytheistic solution to a Monotheistic problem. Discussions of this nature are only useful if the terms of reference and definitions do not constantly expand.

The problem is to except the starting point of the discussion. It would be true to say that the first proof required is that physical reality and therefore all evidence is not just the product of individual perception of reality, and that it is identical to every other individual, and that question dispite great debate remains unanswered. So all of us choose to believe that "we are therefore we think".

No Stonecutters- Fallen Angels can't perpetuate atheism, Lucifer is the god of this world according to God is he not? At least God accepts that he is not the only one, even if his followers do not.

Something which is naturel we can quantify and therefore produce a probability for it's repition, the supernaturel is only that which we are unable to quantify and therefore can not assign a probability to it. Due to this we would difine it as impossible, but just because we are incapable of assigning probability does not make such events improbable under the laws of quantum physics.

John 1:1 in Coptic Translation

apparently there has been quite a stir in jw apologetic circles recently about the translation of john 1:1 in the early sahidic version of john.

i don't know if this has been discussed here before - if someone could give a link to a previous thread they know about on the subject that would be great.

Historical evidence for Christmas and Christs birthday

there is a historical basis for the december 25th date of christs birth.

justin martyr (100-165 a.d.) wrote marcus aurelius that jesus was born at bethlehem as you can ascertain also from the registers of the taxing.

The gospels of Matthew and Luke make it very clear that Jesus was born in Feb/March of 7 bce or before. Therefore the census records from 6 ce would not be showing a Dec date. As I understand the Roman's reason for census it was to determine who was eligable for tax, and old enough to serve in the auxilary army. The precise dates of birth were not a requirement only age. In any case the people were not required to travel to register the colators of the information travelled from town to town, and also collected taxes due it was part of the Roman system.

It is also the the case that Luke does specifically use the the word birth in chapter 3, and the reference to a new born baby can equally be translated as young person, in my view 12 or 13 years old.

Thanks Designs for that info. Luke also contridicts himself in 3:23 if the translation is correct and give date of birth as 1 BCE to1 CE. It is this verse that is used to diffine the zero year of the common eara. I come back with an exlpaination I think? Bart

SBF- The NWT adds the words "when one" in 2 Sam 24:1 and there are no brakets to indicate their departure from the original MT. This is placed here in order to remove the contradiction between this verse and 1Chron, and to shift the responsibility of the murder of 70,000 innocent Jews from Jehovah to Satan.

There is only one reference to Satan in the OT in 1 Chr 21:1. However there are other various uses of the hebrew word satan which means adversay, resitor, or opposer. The first is in Numbers 22:22, where the "Jehovah's angel" acted "as opposer" the hebrew in the MT shows "as satan".

In addition in Job the refence is to "the satan" as it is in Zechariah 3:1,2. The use of as satan and the satan only show that, and we can assume whoever fills this roll uses this title, and that they are either a single angel or the role of satan could be filled by any of them. However in 1 Chr 21 the use of Satan as a proper noun indicates a specific individual and this is the first use of the term in this way.

Did you mean to imply that the content of the NT is more likely to be Essene in its nature as opposed to Pharisee, Sadducee, or Zealot?
